This CPD course supports practitioners to understand missing from care as a safeguarding issue, not just behaviour. It focuses on the risks young people may face during missing episodes, including exploitation, harm, and increased vulnerability.
The course explores why young people go missing, using push and pull factors, and highlights the importance of recognising patterns over time. It also covers how to respond appropriately, including timely action, accurate recording, information sharing, and multi-agency working.
There is a strong focus on professional judgement. Practitioners are supported to make decisions where information may be unclear, and to remain curious, consistent, and child-centred in their approach. The role of return conversations and follow-up is also explored, helping move practice from reaction to prevention.
This course is suitable for residential childcare, education, and safeguarding professionals and supports ongoing CPD and reflective practice.
A certificate is issued upon successful completion, with a minimum pass mark of 80%.
Duration: Approximately 100 - 125 minutes
This course is designed at a Level 3 standard to support practitioner-level understanding.
It is a CPD activity and does not form part of a regulated qualification.
